The cyberpunk worlds are not something new, it´s been around for a while in fact, defined as "Cyberpunk is a subgenre of science fiction in a dystopian futuristic, this world that we love every day focus on a "combination of low-life and high tech" featuring advanced technological and scientific achievements as a lifestyle, AI artificial intelligence and upgrades in the shape of body implants and cybernetics, juxtaposed with a degree of breakdown or radical changes in the social order that combine the Asian cultures of cities like Tokyo with the Californian lifestyle in a world we all want to be part.
It started with the New Wave science fiction movement of the 1960s and 1970s, on 1977 Judge Dredd was published, a law enforcement officer in the dystopian future city of Mega-City One, then the novel by William Gibson's Neuromancer would help solidify cyberpunk as a genre, others writer help the genre to become even more famous like Bruce Sterling and Rudy Rucker.
The Japanese cyberpunk subgenre began in 1982 with Katsuhiro Otomo's manga series Akira, and in 1988 with the launch of the anime film, that movie just blew our mind by that time, was absolutely outrageous and gorgeous at the time, and just make us want more.
Then the world experience the marvel creation of Ridley Scott's 1982 film Blade Runner, that movie is still today a Cyberpunk classic within the Cyberpunk culture, then we had a sequel in 2017, Blade Runner 2049, and then came the amazing Alita: Battle Angel (2019) based on the 1990s Japanese manga Battle Angel Alita, in 1995 we were honored to see Ghost in the Shell and anime cyberpunk film directed by Mamoru Oshii. Written by Kazunori Itō and based on the manga by Masamune Shirow, The movie had also a cool live-action version in 2017 with Scarlett Johansson as Motoko Kusanagi.
In 2018 we saw the amazing Altered Carbon series on Netflix based on Richard K. Morgan's 2002 novel of the same name.
And now in 2020, after almost 8 years of development and eternal waiting, the polish legends of CD Projekt Red, creators of wonders like The Witcher (the video game series) will deliver what we will receive with arms wide open anxiety and over-excitement what we know will be a Cyberpunk masterpiece, the upcoming video game Cyberpunk 2077 (2020), based on the role-game Cyberpunk.
We've been waiting for so long for this, and with every trailer, game playing video, knowing that Keanu Reeves will be part of the game OMG!! or any news about it we get even more excitement, the launch date was set for November 19, 2020, but was changed to December 10, 2020, what can we say, creating a masterpiece that will change the gamer world forever is not an easy or fast work to do and we are absolutely sure all this waiting will be totally worth it.
